Description

I had second chance at the Lagoon Nebula at a dark sky site. This time, twilight had not begun, and I also had an IR-UV/cut filter to use. The green pixel filters leak near IR and IR into the green channel, which can turn Ha reds yellow. Sure enough, this image isn't as bright (less gain and less exposure time) than the previous image (also on Astrobin), and yet I think its better. You can see dust lanes more clearly, star colors are more saturated and red is red rather than an orangey yellow. The main problems here were wind, which stretched stars a bit and the atmospheric distortion caused by low altitude producing red and blue star fringes. The latter are more obvious when using the IR cut filter!
