Description

June 16th was a great night for planetary observation and imaging in the DC area. Decent seeing and pleasant temperatures lasted throughout the night. Jupiter, Saturn, then Mars formed a nicely spaced parade across the southern sky over the course six or so hours. Jupiter was particularly showy this night with the GRS prominent, a transit of Io (Io's shadow visible on Jupiter's disk at the time of this image; Io to the right of Jupiter), and Callisto just visible to the top right of Jupiter's disk.

Imaged with a C8 Evo, custom Siebert 2x barlow, ZWO ADC, Baader Moon&Skyglow filter, and ZWO ASI224MC. Image capture using Firecapture. Stacking in AutoStakkert3. Deconvolved in Fitswork4. Color balancing and Wavelet sharpening in Registax6. Lastly, processed a single frame in WinJupos10.9 to generate the final image (had a trio of frames, but the other two weren't as good and the combined result was worse than the best of the three). The image is a stack of the best 50% of ~27,00 frames captured over 180 seconds.
