Comments: This image, taken in 2009, shows a small portion of an immense bubble of interstellar gas which was ejected at the time of a supernova some 11,000 years ago. The above image captures some of that filamentary and gigantic shock in visible light. Hydrogen atoms being excited by atomic collisions glow red, while oxygen appears blue-green.
