Description

Ptolemy's Cluster, aka M7, is an open cluster of stars in the constellation of Scorpius. This Cluster contains about 80 stars within a field of view of 1.3° across. At the cluster's estimated distance of 980 light years this corresponds to an actual diameter of 25 light years. In this image the bckground starfield dark lanes show up nicely.

This image was captured with an ASI1600MM-C camera on a TS80 APO reduced to f5,5 , the effective focal length being 440mm. Mount is the CGX.

This is a purely a RGBL image, consisting of: 55 x 30 second subs for each of the colour channels (RGB) and 55 x 20 second subs for the Luminance channel. Luminance opacity was dialed down to 17%, for a subtle contrast enhacnement.
