Description

I. Love. This. Galaxy. Field.

The smaller spiral, NGC 6530 deserves a spot on the Arp list of peculiar galaxies. I love the dust lane in the grand spiral NGC6528 looking eery bit like a miniature Andromeda galaxy complete with that double dust lane in the foreground arm, and faint satellite galaxies too, of course.

And as a bonus, if you look to the right half of the image, which I did not crop out, there are three distant reddish (probably giant elliptical) galaxies and some fainter similarly reddish little galaxies nearby them and probably at the same distance. Judging by the scale and the apperance of the Corona Galaxy Cluster at 1.2 billion light years, this "little" grouping of giant ellipticals are probably well over double that distance, between 2 and 3 billion light years distant. I have to guess because they aren't in SkySafari's extended PGC galaxy database.
