Description

Sharpless 2-132 is an emission nebula in the constellation of Cepheus. It is often referred to as the ‘Lion’ nebula, for obvious reasons. I have also seen it called the Dragon Nebula. The only distance estimate I could find (from Galaxy Map ‘.org’) put the object at 10,000 to 11,500 light years distance from Earth.

It is a large object that required two panels on our remote widefield rig in Spain.

This is a bicolour presentation of data collected between 24 June and 15 July 2018. We intend to collect more data for a full SHO ‘Hubble Palette’ image.

Capture details are as follows:

Telescope: Takahashi FSQ 106

Camera: QSI 683 WSG

Filters: Astrodon

Mount: 10 Micron GM1000HPS

Ha: 34 x 1200s

OIII: 30 x 1200s

A total of 21.3 hours exposure.

Data Capture: Steve Milne & Barry Wilson

Image Processing: Steve Milne
