Description

Messier 61 (M61, NGC 4303) is a magnitude 10.2 barred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Virgo, and is located at a distance of about 53 Million light years. It is one of the largest members of the Virgo Cluster of galaxies, and has an apparent size of 6.5 x 5.8 arc minutes.

Exposure: LRGB (unbinned): L:35x10 R:13x10 min, G:13x10 min, B:13x10 min Total 12.3 hrs

Processing: Image acquisition using CCD Autopilot. Initial processing was done using Maxim DL with subsequent processing with Photoshop. John Senkow did some final tweaking to improve the image.
