Description

Messier 74 (also known as NGC 628) is a spiral galaxy with two well-defined brackets, located in the direction of the constellation of Pisces, at a distance of about 35 million light years from Earth.

The M74 has similarities to our galaxy; Has a diameter of 100,000 light years and has 2 billion stars.

The main features are:

• in the center, we can see a small but bright nucleus where an intermediate-sized black hole resides;

• In the arms there are two types of regions: the blues, which reveal young and hot newly formed (or new in formation) stars and the pink ones that characterize the HII (ionized hydrogen) regions.

However, the most notable fact is its symmetry, assuming it has originated in density waves caused by neighboring galaxies that make up the M74 Group (NGC 660, UGC 891, UGC 1195 or UGGA).
