Comments: This region in Cygnus is overlooked for the more famous targets of the region. When I decided to image the region I decided to shoot as deep as reasonably possible to see what treasures might exist around the dark nebula LDN 988. I was unaware of the two obvious blue reflection nebulae GN 21.01.3 and LBN 409. GN 21.01.3 looks like a small Iris Nebula (NGC7023) to me. The emission nebula in the upper right of the image near the open cluster NGC 7031 is uncataloged as far as I can tell -- no HII nebulae is noted near NGC 7031 according to SIMBAD. Another interesting object is [C86] L988a. This is a looped nebula in LDN988. This would be a great target for a large aperture, longer f.l. instrument. You can see it better, as well as LDN988, in the cropped image below. Sh2-120 and 121 are the two small HII regions left of center. Faint dust makes some of the backgrouind appear blue from reflection.

Note: the background has been carefully stretched so that the faint nebulous clouds can been seen. This makes all but the densest dark nebulae translucent. Also, the luminance data is a two frame mosaic.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
