Description

This object is an open cluster located in the constellation of Vulpecula. The cluster lies just east of the famous Coathanger asterism.

Despite having a uniquely elongated appearance, I could find no detailed information on this cluster. There appears to be about 50 stars in the cluster. Although it looks to me that most of the stars are bluish, the overall image has an orange cast. I assume that this is due to a high amount of dust in this region.

I find it interesting that an open cluster could take on a cylindrical shape. Adding to the beauty of this cluster, a pair of double stars frame it at the top, and another pair of bright stars frame it at the bottom.
