Description

M27, the Dumbbell Nebula. Located in the constellation Vulpecula, about 1400 light years distant. Planetary nebulas are the remnants of old stars that exploded, expelling their outer layers of gas, and this is the first one ever discovered. At the very center of the nebula you'll see a star- this is what is left of the star that made M27. What you see is a white dwarf, in fact, the largest one known.

Acquired two nights ago (08/06/2018) with really good seeing from an urban sky in Lynn, MA.
