Description

Observed and imaged Mars on the night of August 5, 2018 while visiting in Northeastern Ohio. Conditions were poor to average, but with Mars only a few days past closest approach to Earth of this opposition (which occurred on July 30th), this was a nice night to show off Mars to folks.

Imaged Mars with the one-shot color (OSC) ASI-224MC using both Baader Moon&Skyglow and IR-685 pass filters. This was my first use of the 685 nm IR pass filter and it is an interesting character that will take some getting used to. De-rotated and combined RGB and IR images in WinJUPOS (each of these images was in turn the de-rotated combination of 3 images). The end result was an RGB image with improved detail.
