Description

My sky did not clear until after Midnight. I decided to try and image NGC 7023 the Iris Nebula

with my Orion 8 Inch Newtonian Astrograph. I don't have "go to" on this mount so I was trying to locate NGC 7023 by placing my Red Dot Finder where I thought the object should be. I moved the scope 4 times and took 4 test images. After the 4th image clouds moved in and blocked the sky

where this object was located. I did not want to waste the effort that it took to haul out this heavy gear so I looked around and it appeared that the constellation Hercules was in clear sky. So I decided to image M13. After taking 13 images the clouds moved in and covered this part of the sky. As it turned out only 4 of my light frames were usable because of clouds. I took a few dark and bias frames and called it a night. This hobby can definitely be frustrating. I don't even remember when I last had a clear, Moonless sky. Louisiana is not noted for having a high percentage of clear skies but this Summer is one of the worst that I can remember as far as clear skies are concerned. Sorry for the venting. Please enjoy my most recent image of M13.
