Description

Taken with my Canon EOS 60D and Saxon 6" Dob. Single shot.

The focuser on my dob doesn't let me bring images to sharp focus due to a lack of inward focus. So, I removed the 2' focuser insert that comes with the dob (it's a really messy system imho) and directly inserted the camera + t adaptor into the raw focuser, with the focuser racked all the way in. It looked close enough to sharp to my eyes via the camera's viewfinder, but upon closer inspection the RAW image, it's slightly soft. I had to hand hold the camera against the focuser to try and keep it square to the imaging plane, whilst trying to frame it too, since at the focal length of 1200mm, the moon's image was a bit too large to really work with (bonus, I don't have to crop the image I guess).

A sloppy method of making something kind of work, that wasn't going to ever work in its default setup.

I know it's a dob, and you don't tend to image with a dob (for a variety of reasons), but it would be nice if manufacturers made sure that their focuser can come to focus with a normal DSLR...it's not much to ask imho.
