Description

It's not often we can see the movement of stars from one year to the next. This movement is called 'The Proper Motion of Stars." It is the apparent movement of stars relative to our position and the background or stars.

This animation takes us from 1953 (The POSS1 database) to my current image in 2018, 65 years. In the red box there are two stars that move. One is easy to spot (GSC 154:1343) and the other, more difficult (GSC 154:381). Click on the image. It's easier to spot both stars in the larger image.

And just for grins, I measured the apparent movement of GSC 154:1343. It was 18 arcsec over the 65 year period.
