Description

M31, or the Andromeda Galaxy, is the closest non-satellite galaxy to the Milky Way, at a cool 2.5 million light years away, making it also the furthest object that can be seen with the naked eye from Earth. It is estimated to have a trillion stars, about twice that of our own galaxy and will, in billions of years, collide with the Milky Way.

Data acquired over two nights in mid-August 2018. Light pollution, M31's low position for most of the night and my unmodified camera made it hard to post-process - I aim to come back to this target with a cooled camera!

Acquired with Sony A6500 (unmodified) and William Optics Z73 on iOptron CEM25P mount. Lacerta MGen II drove camera, guiding and dithering.

Reprocess: Came back to data in May 2019, now stacked with APP, using quality ranking of subs vs. DSS stacking previously. Hopefully also improved noise reduction and stretching techniques!
