NGC 457 the Owl Cluster

I decided before I went outside that I was going to try and image NGC 457 the Owl Cluster with

my Astro-Tech AT6RC Ritchey Chretein scope. I've imaged this object before but not with this scope. When I first went outside the sky appeared completely clear. I had trouble getting a tight focus and had to take 4 or 5 test images. Finally I felt it was as good as I could do and began imaging. On my 3rd image I noticed it was ruined by clouds. I continued imaging but when I finished imaging and checked my light frames I wound up trashing more than half of them. I did get an image but clouds obscured a lot of the dimmer stars in my images and the Moon skewed the color badly. I need to try this again with this scope if I ever get another clear, Moonless night.

And the way things have been going lately it doesn't look like that's going to happen. With all of that said please enjoy my most recent image of NGC 457 the Owl Cluster.

Description: The sky will not cooperate and let me do any imaging. So I've been reprocessing some of my images to try and improve them. I've never really been satisfied with this image. I completely reprocessed it today.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
