Description

M66 is a disturbed spiral galaxy found in the direction of the Constellation Leo at a distance of 36 Million Light-Years. It is a member of the Leo Triplet which also includes M65 and NGC3628, and all three are interacting gravitationally, creating the disturbed look of M66, which shows many heavy dust lanes and bluish star-forming regions mainly in the high central mass interior. It had a close encounter with NGC3628 around 800 million years ago. M66 has an approximate diameter of 95,000 Light-Years.
