Description

NGC 6559 and the surrounding area is a complex star forming region approximately 5,000 light years from Earth. It can be seen in the Sagittarius constellation close to the more famous nebulas, M20 (Trifid Nebula) and M8 (Lagoon Nebula). The region comprises red emission nebulosity (from glowing hydrogen), blue reflection nebulas (from light scattered by dust) and dark nebulas/twisty lanes (also from dust).

The picture was formed by combining individual images taken with four different filters that allow imaging of ionised Hydrogen (Ha), plus Red, Green and Blue broadband colours. A separate Luminance filter was not used. Ha was blended with Red, then combined with the Green and Blue images to form a single HaRGB picture.

The image was fully processed in PixInsight. Finalized pictures were cropped and re-sampled by 120% for aesthetic reasons.
