NGC6946 is a face on spiral somewhere around 25 million light years away in a direction between the constellations of Cygnus and Cepheus. The galaxy gained the nickname of the "Fireworks Galaxy" due to the fact that a visible supernovae appear just about once every decade on average. Simply put, there is a lot going on in this galaxy and plenty to look at when you zoom in.
One interesting object that is actually in the foreground caught my attention. There is a pink malformed star in the image toward the bottom, just right of center. I was curious about this and looked it up in the Simbad database. It returned this description "V* DT Cep -- Eclipsing binary of Algol type". So, I seemed to have caught the eclipsing binary action when capturing some of my frames. This is perhaps not surprising when I noticed the period of variability is only 5.5 days. Thats a fast orbit for a pair of stars!
