Description

From Atlas of the Moon by Antonin Rukl…

"The dark surface of Mare Nectaris, the flooded wall plain Fracastorius and the beautiful crater Piccolomini (not shown) are the most prominent formations in this part of the Moon."

Fracastorius is named after an Italian physician, astronomer and poet. It consists of a "walled plain (124 km), whose wall to the north is missing, its floor continuing in M. Nectaris.

Mare Nectaris (Sea of Nectar) is a "circular mare (diameter about 350 km, surface area 100,000 sq km); it is the central part of a lunar basin, flooded with lava."
