Description

I did not intend on imaging this object. I wanted to image NGC 6914 a reflection nebula. I did a select and slew to this object and took a test image. I could not see this object in the test image but it is relatively small and dim. A lot of times I image blind and can't really see the object that I'm imaging until I begin stretching the data during the processing. On my 8th light frame my mount did a meridian flip and when it finished the flip I was no longer in the same place in the sky.

I guess I was fortunate that the mount did the flip because when I began processing NGC 6914 was no where to be found. So I didn't waste the entire night imaging nothing. The Moon was very bright so I quickly looked for a target that was as far from the Moon as I could get and one that would not require a meridian flip. I chose M33 which probably was not the best choice with a Moon up. I've imaged M33 a lot and it is an object that tends to damage my ego every time I image it. But with that said I enjoy imaging and processing this object. I could not use the exposure that I wanted to use because the sky wouldn't permit it. After taking several test images at different exposures I used the one that I thought would work the best. I did get an image and it looks like M33 but it is not the best M33 image that I've seen. I last imaged this object with this scope and camera on 9-30-17. Today I compared the two images and they are identical except for a slight difference in the color. I think we all strive for improvement when we image an object that we've imaged before. However there was no improvement obviously.

Oh well I did not hit the bullseye in my target but at least I am grouping my arrows. With all of that said please enjoy my most recent image of M33.
