Description

Globular cluster M71 is one of my favorite visual targets, and its attractive with an image sensor too. It isn't as spectacular as some of some of the grander clusters like the Great Hercules Cluster, but the colorful star background of the Milky Way adds a lot of drama to the background that many of those "other" globular clusters don't have.

After color balancing it, I popped the saturation up here a little more than I usually do. It helps give it a little more depth, and makes it clearer what types of stars are present in the field.

Now that I have fixed a collimation stability problem I was having, I am going to work on improving the sharpness of stars in my globular cluster images. This one is ok, but I think seeing was good enough that I could have gotten the dimmer stars a bit sharper than they are. I may also have not focused recently enough when I imaged this. It got cold pretty fast the night I took this and I think the trusses on my dob were shrinking a bit - I had to refocus several times over the course of the evening.
