Description

This is a tough object to get a good image of from my latitude (around 45N). I rarely get good seeing evening at this objects low altitude in the sky, but I keep trying. It rises only to 30 degrees in the sky, where I try to capture data as it passes the meridian. So far, I've had some of success capturing decent images only two times this year, for a total of 10 minutes of data. I'll have to try again next year...

This is an irregular galaxy in Sagittarius. Its in our own local group, and is only 1.6 million light years away, considerably closer to us than the Andromeda Galaxy. Many bright stars are easily resolved in this galaxy when imaging, and quite a few blue reflection nebulas and O-B star associations as well as several red emission nebula are readily apparent. The reddish has is mostly unresolved stars - better seeing and longer exposure would probably show them better. I consider this a work in progress that is waiting for more data.
