Description

This image focuses on only a portion of the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) in the constellation of Tucana. Four nebulas and a number of associated star clusters, including NGC346, NGC371 and NGC330, are shown within the field of view. The region around NGC 346 is particularly strong in OIII and contains HD 5980, the brightest star in the SMC.

This image was processed in PixInsight using a bicolour palette (Red = Ha, Green = OIII, Blue = OIII). The final image was cropped and re-sampled by 120% for aesthetic reasons.
