Description

Certainly one of my craziest works.

The field of view on my garden site is very limited, and sometimes I have to wait for a while, until my targets come lurking around the rooftop. Meanwhile I try to check out, how future photoobjects would appear within the limits of my equipment. Waiting for NGC 6940, I took a try on the crescent nebula. This here is the result of only three lightframes of 270 sec. each, combined with the masterflat and the masterbias, which were meant for the calibration of NGC 6940 – and no darkframes at all. On the first view, I felt the stacked image was absolutely awful. But after processing, I compared it to photos of NGC 6888, astrophotographers were really proud of, some 30 years ago, acquired at obscure dark places, exposed on Kodak TP film (hypersensibilized with hydrogen gaz in a pressure vessel on the kitchen table and deep-frozen until the date of use), processed with some strage brews – and I found it way better.

So, take this one for the curiosity, not for your delight.
