Description

Sharpless 171 is an emission nebula about 2,900 light years away in the constellation Cepheus. It's a young star-forming region, and includes one of the hottest, brightest stars within close proximity of the Sun, BD+66 1673. It's over 100,000 times brighter than the Sun, and is partly responsible for lighting up the region like this, along with all the star-forming activity. What was really striking about this image was seeing a ton of light emitted from sulfur: there was way, way more than I usually see. So I tried to process it in a manner that would bring out the fire-and-brimstone colors and overall aspect of the nebula.
