Description

Well, I just got my hands on Fitswork 4 and have figured out how to use it, sort of. Its user interface is translated from German, so us english speaking folks are on our own to figure out how to use it without much documentation.

This image of M81 was taken from my backyard with some major light pollution gradient and looked wonderful behind a veil of terrible. I managed to figure out how to use Fitswork's pretty decent de-gradient tools enough to fix this image and remove the gradient veil to reveal this image! A had to do little bit of saturation pump up to bring out all those wonderful O-B associations in the outer arms and remove a slight residual green sky-glow cast that tipped the center region from yellow to green. No sharpening was applied. Pretty decent for 15 minutes in the backyard. I will have to get around to imaging this from a dark sky site one of these days under some really good seeing so I can try for bin 1.
