Description

The area covered by this image is a little off the beaten track and has been visited by others but we have not been too inundated with images of the area. Prominent are the emission nebulae in the centre of the image - IC1283 & IC1284 and the blue reflection nebula NGC6589 & NGC 6590. The scattering of stars at the 2 o'clock position just above the blue reflection nebulae are part of the open cluster NGC6595. Clouds of brown coloured interstellar dust are blocking out the light from the Milky Way beyond. Not far away (at least when it comes to slewing the telescope) are the more popular targets of M16, M17, M8 and M20. The area also borders on to M24, the Sagittarius star cloud.

If I look carefully I can imagine that I see a cave with a V shaped entrance and a red faced monster with two piercing blue eyes looking out from beyond.
