Description

NGC1097 is located in the Constellation Fornax around 45 Million Light-Years distant. We observe this beautiful barred spiral galaxy face-on. It has an active galaxy nucleus and a super massive central black hole. The bright center is approximately 5500 light-years wide, and contains many active star-forming regions along the ring of dust in the central core. The small galaxy seen in the center of the outer reaches is NGC1097a.
