Description

This image has a very interesting story of how it came together. It is a mix of data over many years, many locations, and a collaboration with my dad. As I'm getting ready to ramp back up into my imaging season, I thought I'd try to find some old data to reprocess. As it turns out, I took KJPN 8 a couple of years back and my dad recently finished acquiring data on the Bubble Nebula. I knew I really wanted to do a mosaic of these two targets, but I didn't think our data would line up very well, but after a closer inspection I was able to find a very specific cinematic type framing that allowed them both to show up in the same window. It meant that most of both fields had to be thrown out, but in my opinion, it was worth it for this fun project!

Obviously, this is an incredibly artistic representation of the region. A short description is that the KJPN 8 side of the field consists of Ha, NIR, R, G, B, and OIII, while the Bubble side of the field consists of Ha, R,G, and B. The interesting color palette assigns Ha to Blue in The Bubble and Ha to Blue in the KJPN frame. However, red is assigned a max blend of a tonemapped version of Ha, OIII, and NIR in the KJPN 8 frame. Both frames had a natural RGB blend for star colors. Then I blended a psuedo max of everything for a psuedo luminance frame to light up the whole image. The reason for the more creative framing was for multiple reasons; one was to show off the different object and filters used to make it up in the KJPN region, and the other reason was to naturally differentiate the gaseous data sets in a true framing method without having to do any actual painting on the object. While it is a super artistic representation, it still maintains some limited credibility as a nod to a true representation, at least as much as any multi channel mix in non visible light would

Anyways, thanks for looking and I hope to be back to processing and acquiring more data now!

Special thanks to my dad for another collaboration. Always a true pleasure to join forces on an astro project!
