Description

As usual, I wasn't satisfied with the DSLR image of last year. So I put the 12" Newtonian at the pacman again and was rewarded with very good seeing conditions.

NGC 281 is a bright emmission nebula in the Milky way's Perseus Spiral arm at 9200ly from us. In its center, the open cluster IC1590 leads to the ionization of the nebula. Therefore several Bok globules can be seen in front of the emmission part of the nebula where star formation take place. The nebula was discovered by E.E. Barnard in 1883. He described "a large faint nebula, very diffuse".
