Description

Description

NGC 7635, also called the Bubble Nebula, Sharpless 162, or Caldwell 11, is a H II region emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It lies close to the direction of the open cluster Messier 52. The "bubble" is created by the stellar wind from a massive hot, 8.7 magnitude young central star. The nebula is near a giant molecular cloud which contains the expansion of the bubble nebula while itself being excited by the hot central star, causing it to glow. It was discovered in 1787 by William Herschel. The star SAO 20575 or BD+602522 is thought to have a mass of 10-40 Solar masses.

With an 8 or 10-inch (250 mm) telescope, the nebula is visible as an extremely faint and large shell around the star. The nearby 7th magnitude star on the west hinders observation, but one can view the nebula using averted vision. Using a 16 to 18-inch (460 mm) scope, one can see that the faint nebula is irregular, being elongated in the north south direction.[Source Wikipedia]

CAPTURE Information:

The image was captured with the new iOptron CEM120 mount , the venerable Meade 12"LX200 SCT, and my Atik 383L+ m CCD at F7.16 (2182mm FL). Astronomik's Ha, SII and OIII narrow band, along with R, G and B broad band filters were used. Imaging subs were taken at 1x1 bin, -10C, and 10 min. (Ha, SII and OIII), and 5 min. (R, G and B).

IMAGE information -- 2018:

Ha: 42 subs (7.00hr) on Oct 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.

SII: 38 subs (6.33hr) on Oct 2nd, 3rd, and 10th.

OIII: 51 subs (8.50hr) on Oct 2nd, 5th, and 10th.

Red: 30 subs (2.50hr) on Oct 3rd and 10th.

Green: 22 subs (1.83hr) on Oct 3rd, 4th, and 10th.

Blue: 20 subs (1.67hr) on Oct 4th.

Processing was done with PixInsight, following (for the most part) kayronjm's tutorial of Feb. 24th, 2013 and using the SHO-AIP script. I believe the addition of the R, G and B channels contributed little, if any to the final image. Narrow bands seemed to dominate. The detail and color came out nicely. North is up and this is a slight crop due to the misalignment accumulation from the different filters and times.

COMMENTS:

This is the second posting with the iOptron mount. I've been able to refine the guiding and am very pleased with the mount's overall performance.
