Description

This object is an emission nebula located 5500 light years away in the constellation of Cygnus. It is about half of the apparent size of the full moon in our sky. Not much has been written about this object.

The ionising star for this nebula is BD+45 3216, the bright multiple star just below and right of center. The overall orange tint is due to the dominant hydrogen gas emission, but a large amount of oxygen emission at the center causes the bluish central tint.

My favorite part of this image are the dark dust lanes which extend throughout this object, especially the unique section of numerous roughly parallel lanes on the lower right.
