Description

NGC891 is seen edge-on in the direction of the Constellation Andromeda at a distance of approximately 30 Million Light-Years. The edge-on view is dominated by thick dust lanes backlit by light of heavy star forming regions and the halo. Pinkish area reveal the HII in star forming regions. The galaxy is 100,00 Light-Years in diameter. Unusual filamentary streams of dust are streaming hundreds of Light-Years above and below the disk apparently result from supernovae explosions and heavy star forming activity.
