Description

Here is a deep look at a mess of galaxy, NGC 1961 / Arp 184 (lower left), a super massive spiral that's significantly disturbed despite no obvious interacting partners nearby. It's also hurtling through some intergalactic dust and gas, giving it the "head-tail" look as it moves to the SE (up and to the right in this image) and the material streams past it.

The spiral to the upper right, PGC 17675, and several other nearby galaxies might be in the same vicinity as 1961, but show no signs of interaction. One possibility is that NGC 1961 is a newcomer to this group that has already merged with the rest of its own neighbors and is just making its way into a new group.

This image has a lot of integration, but my bortle 4 skies and non-ideal transparency kept it from going as deep as I was hoping. There is some galactic cirrus in the background, which I didn't really try to bring out in processing but might return to later.
