Description

Should be able to get better guiding now. Losmandy GM811G arrived today. Weather is not allowing me to test it out yet, but I have to go to work tomorrow morning anyway, hence good that it is cloudy, otherwise I would have spent a vacation day :-).

Update for the new Losmandy GM811G mount:

Plus points:

- Transportation! Since I have to carry the mount in and out I wanted to have a mount that is easy to move around, but still can handle a heavier load. This mount could not better, with the RAEXK addition the declination axis can be separated in the easiest way, super quick. For older folks like me fantastic.

- Guiding: looks very good for me, maybe because I had not such a good mount before. Polar alignment and alignment stars need to be done thoroughly though!

- Instructions: the instructions on the web about the Gemini system are awesome!

- Very sturdy, everything locks up very well.

- Azimuth and Height knobs to polar align are very nice and easy to handle (waiting for polar scope though, on back order).

Minus points:

- Cannot get used to the mini hand controller, I try to avoid it as best as possible, do almost everything via Ethernet connection.

- No place for the power supply, or eye pieces if you want to look through the telescope for a bit.

- Very first star fix after polar alignment is by some degrees off, I must do something wrong (not GPS coordinates or time, I made sure that those values are on the money). Second and all following objects are within 1 degree, that is good.

- The web interface to select objects and then move to them could be better (more compact), I have to scroll in order to select "move to selected object".

Description: Ready for more action with the new mount with my "old" 6", 1200mm refractor. After polar aligning with Sharp Cap and 3 alignment stars the average precision in PHD2 was around 0.6" with 4 second exposures. I was pretty happy about this! I cannot setup a good model for the mount since my field of view is limited, and for that I will not whine about this good guiding. PHD2 screen shot will follow.

Description: "typical" PHD2 graph with the new mount. I doubt that I can get it better than that, maybe someone else has some suggestions. Would that accuracy be good enough for, let's say, 2500mm focal length?

Description: Guiding graph of the MyT (recommend!!) with the super long 6" refractor (1200mm FL) after really paying attention to the T-Point model and polar aligning the mount very well. Cannot be unhappy with this on a portable tripod!
