Description

This section of NGC 1499 centers on the star GSC 2369, 2206. I find it so interesting how getting in closer on some nebulae exposes structure, and this target is part of that exploration. [Using a centering star allows me to easily return to the same FOV to add data in subsequent sessions, as well as to slew to a bright focusing star as needed and then slew back to exactly where I was.] At present I monitor the temperature, and when has changed more than about 0.4° I check the focus with my Bahtinov mask. Having grown accustomed to this routine, I can genrally perform this check/adjustment in under two minutes, so a pretty simple and effective method of staying in focus. A new temperature compensating focuser is soon to be added, but that's for a different scope [8" CFRC].

This is only 2 hours of Ha at 3.5nm; as the target has low surface brightness I want to gather additional Ha data. Also, it's on a list of posible/probable targets that contain H-beta data, so I will experiment with that filter. I had just started a run of H-beta on 9, Nov. when the clouds slammed the door shut on the sky...so it goes...I'll be back.
