Description

Wanting to capture a wider swath of sky than my QHY183M can manage, I recently purchased the ever-popular ZWO ASI1600MM Pro astro-cam. This is my first image fully processed image with this camera. So far, I am pleased with this camera's low noise and dynamic range. I am looking forward to capturing some winter targets with it in the coming weeks.

I am still a bit confused about the optimal exposure lengths for my 666mm f5.2 scope and sky conditions, however. Some are using 3 min subs while others are taking 20 minute subs. I started with 10 minutes but I probably could go shorter. I would appreciate feedback from anyone on the optimal settings for this camera. In other words, what is best exposure to provide enough exposure without oversaturating the brighter stars?

Strangely, my histogram indicates I am underexposing, even at 600 seconds. On the other hand, the stretched image appears to be OK or even slightly overexposed? Weird.
