Description

I didn't intend on imaging this object. I tried to image M78. I managed to get 5 light frames. It was 32 degrees outside and I was cold. So I decided to let

my software automatically take the number of light frames that I wanted. I don't normally do this because I prefer taking each image myself so I can see what is happening while I'm taking the images and if something goes wrong I can correct it quickly. I went inside and set a timer. When the timer went off I went back outside to check my images. All of the images but 5 were ruined. Something went wrong with the tracking/guiding and every image but 5 was nothing star trails. The mount did not track at all. Everything was freezing up and the hand controller was acting crazy. For some reason the controller turned off the tracking. I decided not to try and continue imaging M78 because of where it was located and it would require a meridian flip. I decided to image the Rosette Nebula instead. As it turned out I'm glad that things happened the way they did otherwise I wouldn't have imaged the Rosette Nebula. I got a good image of the Rosette Nebula that I'm very pleased with. I consider it the best image that I've ever taken of this object. I captured a lot of nebulosity detail and I like the color. I didn't manipulate the color at all. It's exactly how it came out of the camera. With all of that said please enjoy my most recent image of NGC 2244.
