Description

Continuing a long stretch of clear weather, NGC 891 was placed well for a try with LRGB filters. I’m resisting the temptation to crop in on the galaxy (it is so nice to have such large fields of view after using the Meade DSI IIc all those years!). This is a star-rich field of view and interestingly has a lot of small faint fuzzies as well. I like the face-on spiral just right of center at the bottom edge of the image (hopefully the plate solve will identify it--it did, NGC 906).

Date: 9-10 Nov 2018

Subject: NGC 891, “Outer Limits” Galaxy

Scope: AT8IN+High Point Scientific Coma Corrector

Filters: ZWO 31 mm diameter unmounted 7 nm L, R, G, B

Mount: EQ-6 (EQMOD 2.000j)+PEC

Guiding: Orion Thin Off-axis Guider + DSI IIc +PHD 2.6.5 (Win 10 ASCOM)

Camera: ASI1600MM-Cool, -20 °C, Gain 139 Offset 21

Acquisition: Sequence Generator Pro 3.0.3.140

Exposure: 59x300 L, 18x300 R, 18x300 G, & 18x300 B

Stacking: Deep Sky Stacker 4.1.1 (64-bit) dark+flat (no bias), κ-σ stacking with κ = 1.5.

Processing: StarTools 1.4.332: Software binned all subs 2x2. Gradient wiped the luminance, color & vignette wiped the RGB, stretched, and HDR optimized. Deconvoluted (3 pixels) and untrack denoised. Used Photoshop to combine L with RGB. Did deep space noise reduction and used a couple of rounds of Astronomy Tools’ increase star color, then AstroFrame.
