Pixinsight + Lightroom

The Vela Supernova Remnant is a supernova remnant in the Southern Constellation Vela.

Its supernova exploded approximately 12.000 years ago (and it is about 800 light-years away). The Vela supernova remnant includes NGC 2736 (The pencil nebula, on the left). It also overlaps the Puppis Supernova Remnant, which is four times more distant.

It is still possible to see in this image the great Magellanic Cloud on the right and among them the brilliant star Canopus. Further down is Eta Carinae and the constellation Crux (almost upside-down).
