About a year ago, I acquired a ZWO monochrome camera and have spent as much time as possible learning how to use it as well as learning how to process with PixInsight. This is a recent processing of some of that data.
Specifically, it is of the region around the Crescent Nebula.
The data was collected at the Carr Astronomical Observatory, which is owned by the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada - Toronto Centre. My imaging rig was set up in the Tony Horvatin Observatory (which members can use) over three nights in mid-August 2018.
In all, this image is 146 minutes Hydrogen alpha, 95 minutes Oxygen III and 54 minutes Sulphur II. In addition, there was well over an hour's worth of subs which were taken, but not used due to cloud, satellite trails, etc. (Was using ZWO 1.25" filters). The sensor in the ZWO 1600 mono camera was running at -20 C, so the sensor noise pattern was very low.
This image was an SHO combination (Hubble Space Telescope palette), which understandably produced a noticeably green result. Then, in PixInsight, it was further processed two more steps with SCNR (Subtractive Chromatic Noise Reduction) to remove the green. A little bit of saturation boost after that and this image is the result.
Thanks for looking .....
REVISION NOTE: The revised image has the slight blue/magenta cast removed. How? In PixInsight .... Invert .... SCNR (green) ... Invert back ..... (Thanks for the tips, Martin).
