Description

This was taken prior to Hurricane Michael hitting Panama City. I didn't evacuate and experienced the western side of the eye wall. I was concerned about my observatory so I removed all my equipment before the storm hit and I was extremely lucky as no damage was done to my house, observatory or shed. The trees, fences and pool were not as fortunate. The storm hit Oct 10 and I just now have gotten internet and cable services back. War zone is a good description of the devastation in town. It will be another 3 to 4 months before all the downed vegetation is removed from streets and parks. I am asking for prayers for the families who have lost everything and are being relocated and for the students in town who are having to attend different schools.

On a positive note (I guess), to the east of my observatory a large live oak tree 30" dia existed before the storm hit. I used to curse that tree for blocking the eastern night sky. That tree blew down, took out my pool and privacy fence along with the neighbors shed. The top of the tree just brushed my house. I'm glad the tree is gone but wish it had been done differently. After the storm had pass the night sky was clear and the Milky Way clearly visible from Sag through Cygnus. M31 could easily be seen.

The Sunday before the storm a stray kitten found it's way into my yard. The poor guy was starving to death and I'm a sucker for animals. I fed him and then the storm hit. Now almost 2 months after the storm he has been adopted and joined my other two cats. I named him Mike of course and he never leaves my side when I'm outside. I now have a new imaging buddy.
