Description

The is my first attempt imaging the Veil Nebula as I continue to learn the ropes with my GT81. With the Flat6A II field flattener/reducer in the imaging train and the full frame Nikon D750 DSLR I can just squeeze the Eastern and Western parts of the Veil Nebula into a singe frame. As it turns out, I figured this out after the fact when I combined images of the Western Veil from one night with images of the Eastern Veil from a second night. Total imaging time is only about 2 hrs, so the nebula is pretty faint, but what a beautiful target. Looking forward to adding more data to this one...

NGC 6960/6992 imaged with with WO GT81 at F4.7 (382 mm focal length) using Flat6A II field flattener/0.8x reducer and Nikon D750. Stacked using DSS for a total integration time of ~2 hours using 120 sec subs at ISO 200. Subtracted darks, bias, and flats. Processed in Pixinsight: Cropped, gradient removal with DBE, Background Neutralization, Color Calibration, SCNR, stretched using Histogram Transformation Tool, Curves Transformation, HDR Multiscale Transform, ACDNR noise reduction, Morphological Transformation to shrink stars.
