Description

Messier 60 (M60 or NGC 4649) is an elliptical galaxy in Virgo. It lies about 55 million light years away. Sharing the field is NGC 4647 which together make up Arp 116. Although these galaxies appear to overlap, little evidence of gravitational interaction is seen. However, recent studies with the Hubble Space Telescope show some signs of interactions beginning.
