Description

M33 is part of our Local Group of Galaxies, about 3 million light years away. While under dark skies it can be seen visually, it is actually a very difficult target to capture in all its splendor. This is still a work in progress, because there is so much more still to capture here.

I love M33 not only for its extraordinary HII regions of star formation, with the strong red emission, which even rate their own NGC designations, but also the incredible population of hot blue young stars, particularly in the southern portion.

M33 is thought to be a companion of the Great Andromeda Galaxy, M31, but in terms of star formation, it takes the lead by a large margin.
