Description

I knew I had it somewhere... Found it and scanned it.

This is Halley´s Comet around the 20th March 1986 from Johannesburg, South Africa. Back then I took my first tracked shots with a new equatorial mount, camera piggy back on a 100/1000 newton. Wasn´t able to take b/w shots of DSOs with longer focal lengths and develop them myself yet so I usually used slide films at shorter focal lengths as labs weren´t able to develop astropictures on normal film, they never got the positives right. Halley´s comet was _the_ astroevent of 1986 but only in the southern hemisphere, sits at DEC -28° here (the cluster in the Milky Way at the top is M7, to the left the Lagoon Nebula is visible). It got brighter in April 1986 but the angle of view had changed to head-on so no tail was visible anymore.

Photo was taken with a 50 mm lens f/2 probably around 7 min. exposuretime on 35mm Fujichrome 400 film. I was 13 back then and sometimes wonder whether I´ll see Halley´s Comet twice in my life...
