Description

This widefield view captures the Tadpole Nebula (IC410, lower center), the Flaming Star Nebula (IC405, right) and the Spider (IC417) and Fly (NGC 1931) to the extreme left.

The Tadpole nebula is an area of active star formation and is sculpted by the radiation from the open star cluster within the nebula. Two streamers coming from the center of the nebula resemble tadpoles, giving this nebula its name.

The Flaming Star Nebula is an emission and reflection nebula that surround the variable blue star AE Aurigae. Based on the specifics of its proper motion, this star can be traced back to the area near Orion's belt.

Together, these nebulae and their faint tendrils seemingly connecting them span a vast distance from Earth with IC405 being the closest at 1700 ly, and the Spider and Fly around 10000 ly distant.
