Description

Simeis 147 is a large supernova remnant on the border of the constellations Auriga and Taurus. It has very low surface brightness, making it near impossible to observe directly, and was only discovered in 1952 with a 25 inch SCT. This Spaghetti Nebula lends its name to the filamentary structure of gas emission throughout the nebula. It has an apparent diameter of nearly 3 degrees, and is approximately 3000 light years away. It's thought that this remnant was formed 40000 years ago and now leaves a very strong radio signal from its host pulsar.
